Essie Smokin' Hot

This weekend brought grocery shopping, ugh. I love grocery shopping but I hate how much it costs. Living in the midwest, we are fortunate enough to have a store called Meijer. It's groceries, clothing, a pharmacy, beauty, etc. And it's AWESOME.

They offer a program called M Perks, which is basically an online coupon clipper and you enter your phone number at checkout to use them. As I was searching through their offerings on Friday afternoon, I found an offer for Essie, $3 of 2. So I took the opportunity to pick up two long time lemmings. And this time, it's Smokin' Hot!

What is definitely not unique any longer, it certainly was when she was released in Fall of 2010. I started lemming it shortly into my hoarding, I mean, stash collecting but it was totally sold out! I saw it Saturday night and brought her home.

I'm a fiend for purple-y greige-y charcoals, so it's no wonder I love this polish so much. This is 3 coats with SV!

I love my SV, but I've been thinking about trying something else. I know Madeline's HG is NYC Grand Central Station and I've been thinking about trying it. Any glowing recommendations?

Happy Monday!

  1. Oh WOW, love that colour! I always use Poshe as top coat and it works perfect for me! It dries ultra fast, is very glossy and does not shrink!!!

    1. It's AWESOME.

For some reason, Poshe didn't like me :(

  2. This is one of my favorites. I, too, have an obsession with gray-purples. So I have this...and the Color Club dupe...and Revlon Perplex...and it's China Glaze dupe...A PROBLEM.

    1. Omg, right? I have maj love for Perplex as well, I think I have it backed up LOL. RBL Recherche even kinda falls into this category. I haven't worn Channelesque in a while, I should dig it out again!

  3. I love this polish, especially as a mani/pedi with Essie Merino Cool. They came out in different collections, but it's like they were made for each other.

Re: topcoat - I always come back to Seche Vite. I tried a Barielle one (meh), Essie Good to Go (disaster), and Zoya's whole Anchor/Armor (only good with Zoya polish), but then I finally caved and got a bottle of Seche Restore and have never strayed again. I know a lot of people complain about shrinkage, but the only time I ever have that issue is when I take too long with clean up and I put it on polish that's already too dry. You've got to follow their instructions - thin it with Restore as necessary and apply to still-tacky polish, but (for me) there's nothing better.

    1. Oh totally!

SV is my absolute fave. Good to Go was alright...but I've tried Posche, the quick dry Revlon, Prolana Quick & Slick (AWFUL) and I always come back.

I never have problems with shrinkage either! But I left my bottle of Restore at Bryant's parents and I'm out of my big salon refill. I had to buy a bottle at Meijer a few weeks ago and it's just...not the SV I know. It wasn't drying as fast as I'm used to or something. I can't quite put my finger on it. Thankfully Spring Break is coming, so I can finally get my Restore back!

  5. I love NYC Grand Central Station top coat! It works really well for me, even with Zoyas, and it's soo inexpensive. Love this nail color. I have SH Grey Area, which is pretty much the same.
